
Queen Latifah, was born Dana Elaine Owens, March 18, 1970 in Newark. Latifah was the second daughter born to Lance and Rita Owens. She is most famous for her social activism, acting abilities and ability to rhyme. A Muslim cousin gave Latifah the title "delicate, sensitive" when she was eight years old. Latifah sang with the choir of the church of Shiloh in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Her first public performance when she sang "Home" as one of the two Dorothys in the production of The Wizard of Oz. Latifah was in the footsteps of her mother, who was always in touch with the choir and the students. Mark James, the local disc jockey, was contacted by Latifah's daughter to perform at the dance.
